Cardano has had a palate firing since a lesser finishing effort than expected after being well positioned at Yarmouth. He seems in great form back at his best trip and in a winnable race.

Silver Leaf has taken some time to come to hand. She has done some nice work at home but will likely come on a good deal for the experience.

Moondial won a similar contest at Epsom last time. That performance gives us confidence she'll handle this track and it looks to be a race in which she can go close.

Mrs Meader has made the long trip up to Newcastle because it has been too firm to run her on turf. She is unexposed on the all-weather but trip and track should suit her. Hopefully, she has an each-way chance with Sam taking off a useful 5lb.

Frieze Frame missed the break on debut here three weeks ago and finished well behind. Conceding weight to younger fillies from top stables makes this an impossible task, but we'd like to see a more professional performance today.

Recuerdame returns from a break but can run well fresh. He is at his best in the winter but has form around here and always has a chance if they go hard and he settles well.

Helm Rock wasn't beaten all that far in this race last year and put up a career-best performance to win a Racing League handicap last time out  He's well drawn to challenge for this big prize.

Appellant ran a cracker on debut and then I begged his owner not to run him at Ascot but he doesn't spend too much time in the country and was able to watch him run. We took our chance but the ground was far too quick. He should love Newcastle and has been working well…

Beccara Rose has always been a favourite of mine but she has continued to hit the post. She ran very well last time out at Sandown but didn't quite get home up the hill. A return to a mile will suit her and she has a very good draw. She can go close.

Power Of Darkness was unsuited by the track at Windsor where a slow start meant he was always on the back foot. Before that, he had run very well at Chepstow. He has won over this course and distance, loves quick ground and this is a poor race. He won't have a better chance to…

My Chiquita stayed on nicely at Leicester back on decent ground after a break. Stepping up to 1m6f on quick going against mostly older horses should be right up her street. She should be bang there and she has a hood on for good measure to ensure she settles to help her get the extended…

Surrey Noir ran a cracker last time from a horrible draw, making up loads of late ground from miles off the pace. He is much better drawn tonight so we can pop out and sit closer to te pace which should make life easier. He should go very well.

We were delighted when Asense gained a well-deserved first win after making all the running on fast ground at Lingfield last time. That was a 0-50 Classified and while she was rated only 47 and now has to race off 50 in this handicap, her task here is no more difficult. The slight drop in…

Aggagio has a great record around here and was a good second, having made the running in a similar contest over the CD  11 days ago. Always dangerous and will be fine on the ground.

Voodoo Ray is a regular around here, winning over 7f in late June. He found 1m too far last time but whether he will be sharp enough to drop to six might be debatable. Chances anyhow.

Percy's Lad won this race under today's jockey Tom Eaves. He had a bit of a break after his trip to Galway where nothing really went right for him. He has a tricky draw to overcome.

Art De Vivre has run well on all three starts to date. She bumped into a good one last time but ran with credit. She should have no problem stepping up in trip and William Buick is flying. She goes there with a decent chance.

It was more encouraging on his last start from Roundabout Silver and there's no reason why this option won't see further progression. The track should suit but he probably needs rain to be definitely in the line-up. I'll check the ground beforehand and if he does run, he should be thereabouts.

There were excuses last time for Justcallmepete when he was giving weight to plenty of in-form handicappers. He has a nice draw today and the track and ground should not be a problem. Each-way chances.
