I think Toughly ought to win this. She's showing that she's a mid 70's horse at home and shaped nicely enough first time over the CD last month. Hopeful.

Romance In Rome is a home=brd daughter of Churchill. She is a slow learner and will need the experience today. Also, she'll probably want a longer distance in time.

Boundless Poet showed speed on debut over 7f but didn't get home. We're dropping him a furlong in this six-horse affair and I would be delighted if he squeezed into the top three.

Empowered Queen ran on well for a close 4th over 6f last time. She should enjoy the extra furlong today and has a nice each-way chance.

We run two fillies in this. Rock Diva has rather handicapped herself, as she reared in the stalls last time. If she can avoid the problem at the gate here, she would possibly have a few pounds in hand. Another that can challenge for the frame.

First Kiss came to us after the sales where her partnership was dissolved but two of the original partners have stayed in. She won on her final run for the Gosdens and I am hopeful that there will be plenty more to come from her.

Monomyth won at Doncaster in August and followed up with a near miss on the Southwell Tapeta surface. His mark went up to 75 but after a couple of lesser AW performances is back down to 70. First-time cheek-pieces could make the difference. Chances.

Yellow Card has had a couple of runs. He hasn't shown much, although last time was a slight improvement on the debut. He would need to improve greatly again to figure here and will be seen to more advantage once handicapping.

Sands Of Havana, like our filly in the first division, has each-way chances. She's been off since the summer but has experience and again could be worth each-way support. I wouldn't be shocked if one or other of them managed to win.

Toughly isn't a bad filly and she can go well. She's by Mehmas and shows ability and while I'll be hopeful she can run into a place, she might get tired first time up.

Kentucky River was green and then encountered traffic problems on debut. He will stay this 11f, and has a good draw. Can go close and is a nice each-way bet.

Empowered Queen has shown little bits of form but this nursery looks far too competitive for her.

Yellow Card was last of 12 on debut and on what we see at home as well, isn't good enough for now at least.

There have been plenty of vibes about the Varian horse on debut but the form of those that have run is ordinary. Seven Symphonies won nicely over the CD last month and is the one to aim at.

Tempted starts handicapping here and it's difficult to say she's particularly well treated. She has been running okay though and would have a small place chance.

Boundless Poet is the only newcomer here and that puts him at a disadvantage with all the others. He does go okay though and in what doesn't look a great race, he will have his chance. Hopeful.

Fram Castle is basically a galloper who doesn't have much speed. The longer trip on this track should fit his requirements but he could only really be given a small each-way chance.

This race is probably a bit too competitive for Monomyth. That said, he's possibly a bigger price than his form deserves.

Niminy Piminy goes okay. She has a nice pedigree and in what isn't a great race, I think she can run into the money on debut.

Seven Symphonies has shaped okay in both his starts on turf and might have been a little nearer with a clear run last time at Pontefract. He will benefit from the step up in distance and should have each-way chances.

Rock Diva has run two decent races. I'm hopeful she can get into the money here and she is probably our best chance on the day.

Life Is Rosie has had a couple of ordinary runs. She will have better chances when able to run in handicaps.

Fancy Dancer has improved for her first run but still needs to progress further to be better than a loose each-way candidate.

Fram Castle has had a couple of runs for us and showed signs he has the stamina to go this far. Each-way chances if he does get the trip.

Little exciting to report about Split Silik. She has run to a similar level in her first two starts and nothing in her home work suggests today will be markedly better.

Monomyth was running well in the autumn, winning at Doncaster and then a good 2nd at Southwell. He should go well but my eye is drawn to the first-time handicapping Haggas horse. We should be okay though.

Tempted has fallen into the stronger division. She was too keen last time but still ran well and has an experience edge on all of these fillies. She has an ideal draw and can go close.

We've asked big questions of Sahara Dancer on her two runs so far and she's now back in easier company. Although penalised for her debut win for her previous stable, she fits well here and we have to hold out high hopes for her today.

Pure Of Heart won a 1m4f handicap around here off 72. This extra furlong will be no problem, but going up into Listed class will be. As ever, the hope is she'll run on into a place for the black type, but it looks tough.

Killenaule has drawn the one box but sometimes a newcomer can get trapped on the rail if he doesn't break smartly. A son of Kitten's Joy, he has shown promise at home.

Yellow Star is by Derby winner Masar and is a half-brother to some useful winners. He has a nice draw for this debut but the mile might be short of ideal for him.

Nazuki ran a very promising first race around here despite a slow start. She has Rossa Ryan on board today and from the inside draw should have every chance of going one better. Hopeful.

Kentucky River isn't a bad horse and he has a nice pedigree. I noticed they have been backing the Godolphin runner, but if he isn't above average, we might be thereabouts.

Downcliffe Flyer did very little in his qualifying runs on turf. The hope is that in a very poor race he might find something for the switch in surfaces.

Life Is Rosie was pretty green on debut. She has come forward for that and should have a loose each-way chance here.

This doesn't look the strongest of races. The ground might not be ideal for Radio Star but this looks like a good opportunity for her.

Fancy Dancer is not a bad filly and her work has been good. I'm not sure if she can beat the 77-rated favourite at this stage, but am very hopeful she can finish in the frame.

Running Queen has been off for a while and I would have preferred to get a run into her first and that the ground could have had a bit more give. But she had very good form early in the season and I'm hopeful she has a nice each-way chance this afternoon.

Syzygy - we call her Siggy if you were wondering how to pronounce her name - is not a bad filly. She has a decent draw and if she gets a clear run round could have an each-way shout or better. Both today's runners have their chance if all goes well.

Tempted is better than she has shown so far, as each time she ruined her chance with a slow start. We expect her to get away on terms for the first time this afternoon and if she does, I'd expect her to go close.

Split Silk is only small but she does have ability and I was shocked to see she was 66/1 overnight. As we speak she's 100/1 which is a joke and I wouldn't be at all surprised if she pinched a place.

I would have preferred a six-furlong race for Angelica Bay but couldn't find a suitable one so she's going seven furlongs here. She's been very consistent with three 2nd places in four outings and hopefully, she'll run her race again.

It looks very much as though Rock Diva has found the stronger division after the race split. She ran a nice race on debut and I'm pretty sure she'll make the first three, but the favourite looked promising first time out and the money for the Varian newcomer might prove significant. Hopefully, she can at least run them close.

Bob Mali has won all three of his races with a bit to spare. Where that puts him in this tough Group 3 race is debatable, but he deserves his shot at a decent prize.

Ellaria Sand ran her best race for us when 5th in the Redcar 2Y0 trophy race but that form is a fair bit below what's needed here. If she could get close to the principals we'd be delighted.

Empowered Queen ran on well first time in a handicap when 4th over 6f at Newcastle. An extra furlong here and a nice draw could empower her to record an initial win.

Tuco Salamanca has had a couple of ordinary runs so far. He should fare better when able to contest handicaps after today.

Kalahari Blue is bred to be quick and she has run two good races over 6f the last twice. I've no hesitation in dropping her to the minimum and expect a big run today.

This is a competitive handicap. Ecology ran her best race first time out but we're trying first-time blinkers and those with Billy Loughbnane in the saddle could give her a loose each-way chance.

I think we've struck lucky with the split here. It doesn't look the greatest of races and Loch Leven has a good draw and excellent jockey booking. The question is whether she puts it all in. if she does tonight I reckon she'll win.

This is the right sort of race for A Gift Of Love. The track, trip and perhaps most importantly the draw are all favourable so she goes there with a big chance.

Hey Big Spender isn't a filly I would be urging you to back, but she has a chance today. She wears first-time blinkers which might help and a good draw which will, while it's a moderate race.

Nazuki is a promising Earthlight filly, but she could have done with a draw much nearer than the inside. If she doesn't get taken off her feet from the stalls, she could run a nice race.

Life Is Rosie starts here tonight. A daughter of Lightning Spear, she has a wide draw and should benefit from the experience.

Tuco Salamanca did everything wrong on debut at Wolverhampton. We've gelded him since, and hopefully, that will in time iron out some of the quirks he showed that day.

Whiskey Glasses has been disappointing. He is dropping in the weights but needs to wake his ideas up.

Per Contra won around Wolverhampton in the spring but had time off through the summer and probably needed the last run at Doncaster. He should be fitter here and we hope, getting back to his best.

Radio Star starts handicapping in a decent race but off a very fair mark. We're taking another 3lb off that and I think Radio Star has a nice each-way chance.

I think Flight has a very good chance. She ran well at Doncaster when the race didn't quite work out to suit her, but she is up this level or better. Very hopeful.

Lovestruck Romeo did well to win at Bath last time. He's up 4lb here, but drawn 12 of 12. If he can break smartly and get across, he could run a nice race and go close.

Holbrook is only small and consequently, I don't think he'll mind the ground although he might not be the most trustworthy. He wasn't beaten far last time and we have a good claimer on today. Each-way chance at an each-way price.

Fram Castle ran well first time for the stable when 3rd at Southwell. He will like the slow ground and should run to at least a similar level. Chance.

Simmering continues to delight us with her improving performances. Her latest 2nd to Lake Victoria in Ireland got a big boost when that filly won the Cheveley Park in tremendous style. Hope she can run another good race with a chance in an extremely deep Group 1.

Also on 2nd start for the stable after a run in better company at Ayr, Sahara Dancer has similar credentials to Ellaria Sand. While both are outsiders and similar prices in the market, I wouldn't be shocked if one or the other came through to take a piece of the action.

We run two fillies in this, each on 2nd start for the stable. They are both winners and favoured by the race conditions. Ellaria Sand ran in the Group 3 at Ayr and wasn't beaten far even though 9th. A little improvement could see her challenging for a slice of the excellent prize money.

Bob Mali has won his two races and he will like the ground. His Chester form last time is working out well. The Hannon filly made a winning start at Newbury and will obviously be a threat but I'm hopeful.

Empowered Queen has her first run in a handicap and as top weight in a modest race, she should have her chance. The fear is the penalised Indy's Angel who gets 6lb extra here yet has been raised 10lb in today's new ratings. Each-way possibilities still.

Whiskey Glasses has been disappointing. It's hard to drum up too much enthusiasm, especially after last time at Salisbury.

Poor Boann gets a bad draw for the fourth time in a row, but she will get to a winnable mark at some point. There's no doubt she's a speedy filly and if she could get away clean she might prove value for a small each-way.

Fram Castle is a recent arrival to the stable and he does seem a little one-paced. He gets weight all-round in an ordinary field though and can make the frame but seven runners make it unattractive as an each-way bet.

After her promising run on debut at Wolverhampton, I thought Rock Diva would have a big chance here. That was before the heavy rain overnight and the George Boughey horse has run well on heavy behind Bob Mali, another horse of ours at Chester. If she handles the ground she will have a big chance.

Angelica Bay has a nice chance but it won't be easy to beat the favourite. Each-way hopes but she's there to pick up the pieces if that rival blows the start as she did last time.

Glamis Road made a nice start at Doncaster but she has had issues since and it's three months since she ran. She's likely to need the run and this testing ground will not make this any easier for her.

Nala Star has plenty of experience and that should help her get away on terms. She doesn't have the greatest of draws but is a speedy filly and the plan will be to go forward and keep things simple. Big chance.

I'm not too excited about Holbrook. He has been generally disappointing, but we're trying blinkers for the first time today and they sometimes bring improvement. They will need to!

Tuco Salamanca has been working nicely. If all goes well on the way round I would expect him to be in the mix at the business end.

Downcliffe Flyer hasn't shown us much at home or on the track. She will be eligible for handicaps after today.

The Haggas filly has an 86 rating and will take all the beating. If she did run below form, Radio Star would be there to pick up the pieces.

Ellaria Sand is a recent arrival who won a Newbury novice fillies' race before running into places twice at Yarmouth.I expect she'll be out of her depth.

I don't normally run horses back as quickly as this but Pure Of Heart was raised 8lb for last week's win and we get a 6lb penalty here. Theoretically, then, we're 2lb well in, but that short interval is a worry.

Sands Of Marra is out in the weights with the Richard Hughes horse. If anything is going to roll the favourite over it is most likely to be him.

Louis Barthez is up against it here and we probably need to find calmer waters. I doubt he will be good enough to figure in this.

I haven't had Sahara Dancer long but the one thing she has shown me is speed. She made a good start for her previous stable but less so last time. Loose each-way.

Seven Symphonies was probably due a step up in distance but there wasn't a suitable opportunity and this stiff track will be a fair compromise. He is one of a few with an improving profile and we just have to hope he has greater scope from his debut than the others.

Simmering impressed in the Princess Margaret at Ascot and then again last time in Deauville. She has continued to thrive since and while this is a strong Group 1 race, she deserves her place and will give Bedtime Story a run for her money as at the Royal meeting.

Tempted ran well to get as close as she did on debut at Kempton and will know more about it today. She will like the ground and the longer trip. The favourite has a 70 rating and I'll be disappointed if our filly can't match that or improve on it. Good chance.

Nala Star did it well in the headgear last time and hopefully, she will still be finding benefit from it., I'm not sure about the ground but if she handles it, she should go close.

We expected Bob Mali to make a winning debut at Ayr and while he did, he made quite hard work of it. He has a good draw and likes the ground and now, knowing more about it, I think he'll win again.

Per Contra has been off for a while since York after which he was sick and his bloods were wrong. I've given him time to recover. Before York he was very progressive and even if he might just need it after the absence, he is going nicely and I'm hopeful of a big run.

Flight has to turn the form around with the favourite but I'm very hopeful she can. She won very easily last time at Sandown. That was only 12 days ago but she didn't have a hard race and will love the mile here. The overnight rain is another plus and she has Oisin again. Overpriced so great each-way value.

If you'd have told me earlier in the year that Pure Of Heart would be running off 72 (and in a  0-70) I would have thought you were mad. I believed she was more of a high 80s, low 90s filly, but she has had plenty of problems. I thought she would win her last three races beforehand, so I'm wary about making her a good thing here, but she did run well at Lingfield before and this has to be a big chance.

Starlit Spice is by Sea The Stars. She goes okay while not appearing to be a superstar. Might run into the frame on this debut but the favourite looks tough to beat

I'm not sure going up in trip to 7f will help Monomyth, but if it does he would have a good chance. He went up 4lb for his recent 2nd at Southwell but the race is working out well with the 3rd narrowly beaten next time and the 4th winning easily. Hopeful in a tight little race.

Split Silk is by Gaiyyath, a great racehorse that has made a slow start as a stallion. She had a slight hold up in her training so I'd be happy if she finished 4th to 6th in this newcomers' race.

We bought A Gift Of Love at the July sale and this daughter of Frankel ran a very promising race when 3rd at Kempton last month. Going up in trip tonight should suit her. Each-way chances.

Hey Big Spender is a nicely-bred filly we got from the sales in July. We were happy with her first run and now in first-time cheek-pieces, I'm very hopeful she can get her head over the line.

Empowered Queen should be the more clued-up of our pair, having run twice. There were signs of promise on her second start at Goodwood, but she would need a fair bit more to be competitive here.

We run two slow developers in this big field. Downcliffe Flyer was green at both ends of her debut run at Ffos Las. We hope for an improved showing here.

Radio Star has ability and is pretty quick, I had her in the wrong race for her debut at Goodwood and she did everything wrong too. I'm expecting a much better showing today.

Flight is a nice filly and she has very good form. I'll be disappointed if she doesn't win.

Stiorra has her limitations but her chance is helped by the absence of the obvious favourite. She will stay, but I'm not expecting much better than 3rd.

Whiskey Glasses has a small chance. The longer trip will help her but she isn't especially well-handicapped and will be vulnerable to an improver.

Seven Symphonies didn't enter the stalls on her intended debut but has passed her test and should be fine. It's not the strongest race and as long as she handles the heavy ground, she'll go very close.

I don't trust Boann but she has winning form here and her mark keeps slipping. She's a fast filly and on her day she would be dangerous in this.

Nala Star likes fast ground and we hope it won't go too far in the other direction. She's been 2nd three times but I think this is the right spot for her. The sharp 5f and a perfect inside draw should help her gain a first win.

Gazeley is a horse we like but he isn't a particularly fast learner. He will need this run for the penny to begin to drop.

We run two in this big-field sales race. Lovestruck Romeo got his head in front at the fifth time of asking, getting home by a neck at Bath. He has a big gulf in ratings to overcome if he is to pick up one of the big prizes, but they do pay down to tenth. Hopeful of getting a cheque.

Nala Star joins Lovestruck Romeo in this dual aim at a nice prize. She has probably been a little unlucky not to win so far and should be in there pitching at the business end.

Empowered Queen did as well as could reasonably have been expected considering her draw in 11 of 11 first time out at Lingfield. She will be more competitive this time and we're hoping for a run in the mony.

Heavy ground at Ffos Las isn't ideal for a first-time 2yo and Downcliffe Flyer faces that examination today. A couple of them have shown form already and their experience will probably be the deciding factor.

Rock Diva makes her debut. She's okay and as long as she can get in a nice position she would have a decent each-way chance.

They can only have run three times to run in this and Loch Leven qualifies - just. I think she's better than her mark of 75 and ought to go close. She ran well here on her only AW outing so far. Chances.

Our other runner Stiorra, by Saxon Warrior, has shown us very little. Hopefully, she might be inspired by going onto the track, but it's unlikely on what we've seen at home.

The Cinder Girl is better than she showed at Lingfield where if you get behind early over the turf 5f it's hard to get back the ground, especially with an inexperienced horse. She should do much better here and has decent place chances.

A Gift Of Love has a beautiful Oppenheimer pedigree but doesn't seem to be over-endowed with speed. We'll find out much more tonight.

Two first-time runners for the stable today. Hey Big Spender showed some improvement on switching to handicaps for William Haggas. Her mark seems fair enough and she has an each-way shout.

I hope Oisin can be ready to ride Empowered Queen after his problems yesterday. She's drawn in the car park, never easy over 5f here, especially on debut, and while she's okay, I have to be rather pessimistic under the circumstances.

I'm not sure there's a great deal of improvement in Kalahari Queen. On what she's shown in her two runs to date, she has to be there or thereabouts in what isn't the greatest race.

Pure Of Heart has had her chances already. Maybe the booking of Oisin riding her while he's in such great form will inspire her to do that little bit more. Each-way hopes.

Tempted is a newcomer by Iffraj. She has an ok draw but as ever, this Kempton maiden race could have several nice fillies involved.

Holbrook has been a little disappointing. We're banking on a longer trip to draw out a little more. Place hopes.

Bob Mali ought to run somewhere in the high 70s on debut. That ought to be good enough to make him very competitive and finish thereabouts.

I'm throwing a bit of a dart with Angelica Bay. The 7f will help her as will the quick ground. She might squeeze into the first four - but probably not!

Boann has ability but as ever it's a question of whether she chooses to use it.  We're trying different headgear and she went well in it at home, but you can never be sure with her.

I fear we don't have many pounds up our sleeves with Whiskey Glasses who has had plenty of chances to show her ability level. It is an ordinary nursery and she could run into the money if everything goes right.

Seven Symphonies is a grand horse by Sergei Prokofiev. He will find the favourite tough to beat but I'm hopeful he'll get in the money.

Monmyth has hampered himself by being too headstrong in his races. He does have ability though and if he settles he should go very close.

This is a very poor race, but Lovestruck Romeo is a very moderate horse. He's in the right race and must have his chance.

Radio Star is the only newcomer in this fillies' conditions race, but she did get plenty of experience at the breeze-ups. Again, if she could break with them, she could run a nice race. She's certainly fast.

We've two runners today, both loose each-way chances. Sands Of Marra goes up in grade in the Molecomb after winning handily at Windsor. He is quick though and if he can break on terms, he might surprise one or two.

Simmering may have been beaten both times but she has run two lovely races and I very much fancy her to win today. She's the favourite and I think it will take a bit step forward by one of the maiden winners to beat her. Very hopeful.

Celestial Orbit won nicely at Haydock and the form has worked out well, one of those behind her winning a novice the other day. She has come on a lot since that run and I'm doing a rain dance hoping that some of what is falling here at Manton might arrive at Sandown. Good each-way value especially if we get the rain.

I had planned to run only the newcomer here but Nala Star's owners were keen to run too. She might be over-priced as she gets a nice weight pull with Kinetic Force on when they both made their debuts here last month and she will enjoy going back to this fast five. Hopeful.

You can put a line through Pure Of Heart's last run. I've worked her in the headgear she wears today and she went very well. These valuable fillies' maiden races are always pretty tough but she ought to go well.

Kalahari Blue had issues at home before we were able to get her on the track, so she showed much more greenness than is usually the case with our juveniles. As a result, I expect her to make a bigger improvement from first run to second than ours usually achieve and that should put her in the argument.

Ecology should run well. She was beaten by a potentially smart filly on debut but will have improved from that and the faster the ground the better. Hopeful.

Nala Star seems to have bumped into a decent race and she has a bad draw. That said, she showed good gate speed both times she's run and can overcome that issue. She did beat today's favourite when they both made their debuts at Lingfield (turf) early last month and hopefully, can do so again.

We run two here. Holbrook is more of a seven-furlong type and may just lack for a bit of speed compared with our filly. He'll be one for handicaps over further.

Boann has a bad draw and if she starts slowly as is often the case, it won't be easy. She does have plenty of speed though and if she gets into a decent position early on, she could go close. She's a big price.

We thought Monomyth was okay before his first run but he has been frankly a shade disappointing. It's not the greatest race and while he might have a loose each-way chance, it's his third run and things ought to get a little easier once he can run in a nursery.

Flight ran very well, albeit on ground too fast, and running green against a more experienced filly on debut at Newbury. She has improved a good deal since then and while I've heard big things about Archie and Charlie 's fillies, I'm hopeful she is capable of running a big race.

Savannah Grey was an expensive breeze-up buy and is a daughter of Havana Grey. She knows her job therefore and has done plenty of nice work with some of our fillies that have run well recently. Sir Mark's filly was 5th in the Chesham so looks the one to beat, but we have a good draw and go there with optimism.

Celestial Orbid has come on a good deal since her debut at Kempton. I expect her to run well this evening although the Hannon filly may take some beating.

The strong-staying Spartan Warrior has had a little break since Beverley. He will enjoy the ease in the ground and must have a good chance of completing the hat-trick.

Angelica Bay ties in nicely with Glamis Road, our winner first time out at Doncaster on Saturday. She is ready to go and I wouldn't put you off her.

Loch Leven made a promising start when 4th at Haydock over 6f. She was green that day but has done very well since and should enjoy 7f. The Cole runner will be tough but has a penalty.

We run three nice fillies today. Ecology is by Earthlight and has a good draw. She should be thereabouts.

Boann is better on AW than turf but is one of those filies that can either win or throw in the towel. If she gets away well she could go close and there's no question she's over-priced. If she's slowly away, I won't be holding my breath!

Whiskey Glasses is not as good on homework as newcomer Glamis Road, but she has racecourse experience. We would normally be waiting for a nursery - coming onto the schedule now - but this is quite valuable and worth taking a shot at, even for a place.

Two fillies in this. Glamis Road has the greater ability on what we've seen at home but whether she can show it on the racecourse first time is always the question. Our two have the Ralph Beckett horse to beat.

A couple of decent chances today although the way the luck has been going, it could equally be another couple of seconds. Sands Of Marra made a really nice start when 4th at Salisbury despite running green. He has come on for that at home and with normal progression from first start to second, he ought to be there at the finish.

Surfer Dude has so far shown himself to be moderate but this is a moderate race. He is rated only 48 and probably needs 1m4f but in this company, he could have an each-way chance.

Lightning Force ran very well when 2nd on debut here but then got no run at all at Goodwood when favourite last time out. We hope his luck will change - and also ours - we haven't had a winner in June, just a host of 2nd and 3rd places!

Change For Good was last of 3 on his one start for us and I think his mark of 91 is about right. He'll need to improve on that first run to get in the money.

Lovestruck Romeo has experience on his side and his best effort was his 2nd here two runs back. Nothing he did there can match the exploits of several of today's opponents. Tough spot but it's our local track and some of the owners can get here.

It doesn't take long for a run of near-misses to become quite boring with a 2nd and a 3rd again yesterday. Flight, a daughter of Siyouni, is promising, though and we're hopeful she can make a winning start.

After his near miss here last time over further, this might be a little short of ideal for Battle Of Omdurman. We're trying him in cheek-pieces for the first time and he went really well in them at home the other day. We've not had a winner for a while, yet on the Racing Post running to form feature, in one race last week my 68% or whatever was the best in the race with people like Haggas involved. Maybe today will get us back in the winner's circle.

Nala Star will enjoy the rattling fast ground. She has a good draw and all in all an excellent chance after her promising debut when 2nd at Lingfield.

Non-runner

Glamis Road is a nice filly, but I'm debating whether I ought to run her down that hill on such fast ground. I'll make a late decision.

Pure Of Heart starts handicapping after her three runs. I think she hasn't been over-burdened by the handicapper with 78 and we'll be hopeful of getting in the action at the business end.

Kalahari Blue is a nice enough filly although she may well find the Crisford filly too good tonight. Each-way chances though.

We're taking on very speedy types in this and Louis Barthas, while more than good enough to win a maiden looks a little out of his depth here. Eighth or ninth would be my assessment and  I'd be happy with that.

The form of Simmering's debut has worked out well, beaten only by two nice colts at York. The winner, who had run before, has gone on to win a Group 3. The faster ground will suit her too. Great each-way chance.

Sands Of Havana didn't know too much on Windsor debut so the fact she could get so close in 3rd was a credit to her. This though is a much more difficult assignment. I'd love to say she's an each-way bet but if someone is offering extra places, then maybe.

Surfer Dude didn't show much in three runs for his previous yard. He is on a low mark but will probably need the run today.

Non-runner

Lightning Force is entitled to be favourite after her good debut 2nd at Kempton. The winner there was unlucky not to follow up at Beverley. I think she's improving and she has a decent draw although again, too much rain wouldn't be ideal.

Whiskey Glasses is fine for what isn't a great race. Going up to 7f will be a bonus and she has a good draw. She wouldn't want it too soft though.

Sands Of Marra has a very loose each-way chance. Our recent runners have been hitting the crossbar. He needs to improve on what we've seen at home so far, but he possibly will.

Nala Star is not a bad filly by Cotai Glory making her debut. I could have done without the overnight rain as she's a fast-ground type, but she could have an each-way chance.

Battle Of Obdurman needed the run on his reappearance. He has come forward a little from that but he may still be better for tonight's race when although it's a small field, all the others are in good form.

Lovestruck Romeo has the benefit of an extra run compared with Holbrook in the other division. He, too, is no star juvenile but wasn't beaten far when 3rd last time at Salisbury and has the plum draw in one this evening. He has the experience behind him to take advantage of it.

We run a juvenile in each of the divisions of this Class 4 Restricted maiden and while neither is a star, the fact they can run in a lower grade is a big step forward from the BHA. Holbrook showed promise when 6th on debut at Leicester and should be in the firing line at the finish here.

Celestial Orbit is a nice filly by No Nay Never. We've had a couple of 2yo fillies go close lately - one against the colts at York - and she does have ability. The Hannon filly will be tough, but we should go well.

Monomyth is all right but was much too free on debut. Six furlongs around a bend should suit him and while the favourite is likely to be tough, unless one or two of the newcomers are smart, he could have each-way chances.

Pure Of Heart was a shade disappointing last time in a better-class race at Ascot. Stepping up in trip will help and she ought to have an each-way chance. 

On form, Whiskey Glasses has plenty to find but the owner was keen to run, understandably as it's a big day. The Woodcote has thrown up some very strange results over the years, and we would be in that category if we did win.

Battle Of Obdurman has been gelded since his last run in December. He starts on a reasonable handicap mark and we'll be hoping for a promising start to the year.

There's still a question mark where Boann is concerned when racing on turf. It seems she's better on AW and she wasn't disgraced in Listed company last time. She's a bit lairy, hence the blinkers, and while she could surprise us, it's probably unlikely.

As with Enola Homes, Lovestruck Romeo might be up against it with the Hannon runner but he shaped okay when 4th at Brighton and has come on from that. Each-way chance.

Two runners in this, although I do think the Hannon horse ought to win this. Enola Holmes has worked with the filly that ran 2nd the other day at Brighton, so it wouldn't surprise me if she was challenging for a place. Each-way chance.

Per Contra is in good form at home. He could be a 100 horse potentially so off a mark of 92 he may be well handicapped. Hopeful.

Simmering is a nice filly who should go well on debut. The one question is whether she will will handle the ground but I'm hopeful she can.

Loch Leven shows ability at home but the question mark today has to be the ground. If she handles it on debut, she could go close but I've absolutely no idea as to whether she will.

We run two juveniles first time in this restricted novice race. The market isn't giving too many clues about anything including our pair. Lightning Force has the better draw and that might help him come out on top in our private battle. Place chances.

Like Lightning Force, Whiskey Glasses starts off in this restricted novice race. He doesn't have an ideal draw but if Nicola can secure a clear run from trap 10 he too could be a factor. Small place chance.

Louis Barthas had the one run at two. He's improved a lot over the winter and that possibly would give him a small each-way chance, but he's up a long way in grade, so probably not.

This race looks very competitive and with a decent-sized field. Running Queen has done very well since Salisbury and she should improve for the nicer ground - it was very soft at Salisbury. Oisin is back on board, so there's no negatives - it's just whether she's good enough.

Spartan Warrior won here last time and I'm confident he'll handle the extra two furlongs. His mark went up 5lb and he gets a 6lb penalty so we're 1lb worse in but I'm not worried about that. It's not the greatest of races and the bit of rain they had overnight will only help him. Hopeful.

Sounds Of Havana is a Havana Grey filly bred by her owners the Cool Silk Partnership. We're looking forward to getting her on the track.

Holbrook makes his debut in a big field. He has shown ability on the gallops but as always it's hard to know what's in the field apart from those that have already shown form on the track.

Monomyth is quick and is quite nice. Whether that means he will cope with the experience of the favourite who ran so well at Newmarket is another matter.

Suspicion has been doing everything we could ask from him on the all-weather. Two questions, has the handicapper over- or under-estimated him at 86, and is anything else thrown in? We'll find out, but I have to be hopeful.

I like Pure Of Heart, an Awtaad filly who finished a close fourth on debut last year at Sandown under a not-too-exaggerated Jamie Spencer ride. He's back on board today and now he knows her, I'm hopeful, but then in these open novice fillies' races, you never know what to expect from the newcomers.

Spartan Warrior disappointed us last time at Windsor, never going a yard. We're trying cheek-pieces and dropping a furlong in trip. Hopefully, that will do the trick.

Running Queen made a promising start when 4th at Newbury. While she meets a couple of previous winners here, I think she has improved and should go very close.

It's a low-key stable debut for Change For Good who in a three-horse race meets Futurity runner-up Devil's Point at level weights, and has 17lb to make up on official ratings. Might be battling out for 2nd with the other runner from the Haggas stable and he won on debut so that won't be easy either.

Close to declaration time it looked like maybe seven or eight runners, but others also took that view. It was a roll of the dice really hoping to get some black type for her. Boann is badly drawn in 11, but if she did run okay, say just behind the places, we might look for something in France. I can't suggest she's in any way a bet - she's 50/1 - but hopefully, she might sneak a place.

Fancy Dancer shows ability and I expect him to run a nice race. There are several with promising track form and after his run at Newmarket, the Hannon horse might be hard to beat.

Lovestruck Romeo was a relatively inexpensive buy so qualifies for this Band 4 maiden. He goes okay but there seems to be plenty of confidence in Tom Dascombe's newcomer and he can get one ready. Place chances.

Spartan Warrior should enjoy going up in trip and I think he'll like the track. My worry is that it might be a little on the fast side for him, but it's raining here now and hopefully, Windsor will see some too. I would have preferred it if the Michael Bell horse hadn't been declared as he's the one for us all to beat.

Fondest Dream is a sharp daughter of Showcasuing. She will enjoy the conditions and from a nice draw she should be in amongst them. Could run into the frame.

Running Queen is a nice filly who should be sharp enough to run a good race. Whether that will be enough to win is another matter. From what I hear, there are a few fancied, and one in particular I'm told is a jet, so we'll see!

Per Contra won his first two races last year and we think he'll do well as a 3yo. He's a big horse and is unlikely to be suited to Wolverhampton, but he's rated 88 and cannot get into 0-85 races so we're limited for choice. Also, I would have preferred to start him at 10f and build up to this trip but again, options were limited.

Boann is a very quick filly, but one whose form is a bit patchy. Having had some time off she's meeting sprinters that have been around through the winter. Is she a bet? Possibly on this straight 5f where she's won before. Hopeful of a place and maybe better but there's that inconsistency to think about.

Suspicion deserves to be favourite. He seems to be a progressive horse and while he now carries a penalty for his win, I think he should have improved enough again to beat the two that were behind him on debut at Kempton last time. Hopeful.

Spartan Warrior has been gelded since his last race almost four months ago. He probably needs further but I'm hoping for some improvement this evening.

I'm not sure there's too much improvement in Dandy Sands and they seem to have his handicap mark just about right. The one thing in his favour tonight is that he's a small handy horse who might enjoy the tight, turning track.

We like Suspicion. He made a very promising debut over this CD  behind a Charlie Appleby Dubawi colt who easily followed up at Wolverhampton. I'm not delighted with the draw but he has the experience to overcome it. Very hopeful.

I don't really trust Lunar Rocks. From the stands last time she was an eye-catcher, staying on from a slow start over 1m2f and we're going further again as they should go a slower pace at 1m4f, but she's hardly bred to stay the trip. Also, I've changed the head-gear. She has the ability, so could go and win by a long way but as I said, I'm not confident she wants to.

Roberto Caro is no superstar, but he did show promise when 4th on debut at Windsor. That was a long time ago, though, and it's almost like starting again for him tonight. Probably more likely a place than a win candidate.

Floating Voter won at Wolverhampton last month but then disappointed at Southwell. That was his third quick run in a row, but today I'm changing the headgear as he wouldn't have blown out a candle after last week's race. He's a bit of a thinker, but if in the mood, he should get in the money.

Lunar Rocks eventually ran better last time, taking a long time for the penny to drop and then staying on well. She's of limited ability and quirky but if the blinkers work again, she should go very close.

Floating Voter did well to win first time in a handicap at Wolverhampton. He's up 5lb for that but we think there might be a little more than that in the tank. Hopeful of the follow-up.

Suspicion is quite a nice horse who would have been on the track much earlier but he had a setback and missed the summer. He'll probably be green and the outside draw is never ideal the first time, but I think he should have an each-way chance.

Lunar Rocks can be an awkward filly to deal with in the mornings and she hasn't condescended to show us what she is capable of in her three runs on the racecourse either. Her actual rating of 37 means she's 9lb wrong even in this low-grade handicap. Hoping the first-time blinkers encourage her to show something tonight.

Dandy Sands looked the likely winner coming to the final furlong on his stable debut over a mile at Kempton last time but just tired in the final 100 yards. If was a run full of promise and we're hopeful he can get the job done over a furlong shorter today.

Floating Voter ran easily his best race last time out around Kempton, up with the pace for a long way before tiring in the last furlong. He starts handicapping on a fair mark and with another furlong to travel and first-time blinkers he could go very close.

Dandy Sands ran easily his best of three races in Ireland on final start when switched to all-weather at Dundalk following a gelding operation. He has shown promise and hopefully, can finish in the money.

Floating Voter was always struggling from a wide draw at Wolverhampton and probably needed the run after a break during which time he was gelded. Expecting a better showing this evening but he has plenty to find with these.

Fram Castle found 7f around Lingfield too short but the way he stayed on from the back suggests a mile at Southwell will be more suitable. He's no star but could have each-way chances.

Floating Voter had a run in the summer and has since been gelded. He's no star, but in an ordinary novice, he could run into a place. I think he's probably over-priced.

Fram Castle was pretty clueless on debut. I'm expecting a much more polished effort today. Each-way chances.

Lunar Rocks has had a couple of runs and didn't improve much on her debut when beaten by a similar margin next time. She'll be better when able to run in handicaps.

Spartan Warrior will improve for the step up in trip, but he's a big horse and could find Wolverhampton rather tight, especially from his difficult draw. He'll be a mile and a half horse next year, but he could run into a place at a big price today.

Battle Of Omdurman probably needs further than today's sharp mile. His draw in 11 of 11 is hardly ideal either.

Operatic Artist delighted us with her win last time in first-time cheekpieces. Up  3lb for that, I have to be hopeful with an ideal draw and Oisin in the saddle.

Lunar Rocks made a modest debut from a poor draw last week. We will be hoping for improvement here but she is probably a filly that needs a mark.

Venerate has shown ability but we're starting her off against the colts and she might not be quite ready for that. I'll be happy if she finishes towards the front of middle tonight and from there we can look for an easier assignment next time.

Fram Castle makes his debut in a tough race for the grade. We would be delighted if he got in the first four this evening, but I'm not optimistic.

We're taking a roll of the dice with Cruise who has done really well in handicaps and it was a surprise to see such a big entry for this Listed race. Then she gets given the outside draw in a sprint at Lingfield! All we can hope is maybe a run in the middle as she goes to the sales in a couple of weeks.

We've had Louis Barthas for a couple of months and he shows ability. As ever on debut he needs to do everything right, especially at Kempton, but with a decent start he might be pushing for a place up the home straight.

Lunar Rocks has sometimes worked well, but not consistently and this is probably a minimum trip for her. Also, a draw in 10 of 12 around here, especially on debut, has to be a negative.

Operatic Artist improved a good deal on her first run for us since coming over from Ireland when 3rd here recently. Cheek-pieces and another furlong should both help her and I think she has a decent each-way chance.

Boann had a bad draw at Lingfield and could never get competitive, hating the kickback. She is better positioned tonight although 6f is as far as she wants to go.

Spartan Warrior has done plenty of work and goes nicely. This will be the minimum trip for him though and I would expect him to improve for going further in time.

Operatic Artist was disappointing on her first run for us but she needed it after coming over from Ireland. The drop back in trip will help her but I'm not convinced she's an all-weather filly.

Battle Of Obdurman was very green at Kempton. We had him in at Ffos Las two weeks ago and that track would have suited him as he's a big horse but the meeting was washed out. Bath might not be ideal but he has improved and had there been eight runners I would have suggested an each-way bet. He can run a nice race.

Kings Valley is a nice horse and if he can transfer his turf form to all-weather he would have a big chance. I hear the Godolphin horse is useful but no world-beater, but that still will make him a worry on debut. Hopeful.

Obviously, this is a big step up in class for Per Contra who has been beating vastly inferior opponents in his first two races to date. He will enjoy both going up in distance and the soft ground so I think he'll have a nice each-way squeak.

The 30 mils overnight will make the ground very testing at Newmarket and far different from the surface Shuwari raced on here in the Rockfel last time. It's another furlong today so I hope it doesn't turn into a slogging match. She did win on good to soft at Sandown and is clearly the one to beat on form, but it won't be easy.

Cahersiveen joined us from Ireland recently having had a couple of okay runs. He isn't over blessed with speed but 12f around the testing Pontefract track can bring out the best in him. It's a small field and while he has a bit to find on form, he could get in there pitching if the principals have any weakness at the trip.

Agostino Masucci has a nice pedigree but has been slow to come to himself and has already been gelded. He has plenty to learn still about racing but we hope he is motivated by getting to the racecourse.

Non-runner

Shuwari is in good form and goes to Newmarket with an excellent chance. I've nothing to compare her with though and would have liked to have run her once more after Sandown two months ago, but that's life. Very hopeful.

Dig Two can work well and ran his best race yet first time out for us at Kempton. He's been running on turf since then and while he might not be the most reliable, he is 10lb lower now and that will help.

Sarasa ran on to finish in the middle on debut at Salisbury. She is well drawn and should know more about it today. Small place claims.

We bought Operatic Artist at the July Sales out of the Joseph O'Brien yard. We're still finding out about her, but she's quite lightly-raced and hasn't been going too badly on the gallops. She could possibly run into a place.

Really Darn Hot never got into the race after a slow start at Lingfield but granted a better exit from the stalls today, she should soon be in contention. I hope she can build on the promise of her debut run at Wolverhampton. Good chance.

Boann is turning into quite a nice filly and her initial mark may slightly under-value her. She won well at Southwell last time and if Oisin can help her overcome the widest draw, never easy at 5f here, she could go very close.

Marsh Lock has been disappointing so far but this is a poor race and we're trying first-time blinkers. We'll be sending her off in front and hopefully, that will work. I won't be backing her and will be surprised if she did win, but these things can happen!

Kings Valley is a nice horse who should enjoy the ground and he ran a good third over the CD on debut. He has a bad draw on the outside of his field but if he can overcome that, we are hopeful he has each-way chances.

I expected Really Darn Hot to step up markedly on her debut at Goodwood and she looked all over a winner at Wolverhampton but came out second-best in a  sustained duel to the line. Hopefully, she can get that elusive first success here.

Leguizamo isn't the biggest and seemed a little intimidated, missing the break and running green at Chepstow. He should act around Bath and a better start could see a much improved showing.

Pure Of Heart has shown promise at home. The daughter of Awtaad will improve for the experience.

Unfortunately, the going has gone soft after a fair amount of rain at Doncaster which might not suit our filly but will play into the hands of the favourite. What will help is the step up to a mile and all we can do is hope to get a piece of the prize.

Private Getaway has done plenty of work. She could hopefully, run into a place on debut and she's certainly an each-way price.

Battle Of Obdurman is an okay sort and he could be challenging for a place here. The favourite looks tough to beat but apart from the Beckett horse, there isn't too much depth. Hoping for that 3rd place.

Marsh Lock has her 2nd run for the stable since coming over from Ireland. She's in a weaker race and has come down 4lb for that run at Windsor. We hope first-time cheek-pieces will make a difference.

Really Darn Hot needed her debut at Goodwood when she was always in arrears after a slow start. She has improved a lot at home since then and the step up from 7f to this extended mile should be a positive.  Good chance.

Kings Valley ran a blinder on debut at Sandown and has done well since then. The draw is a slight concrern but we have a top jockey in Oisin on board and hopefully, they can get the job done.

Cruise is progressive and she won very nicely last time. So far she has not shown as much on turf as all-weather but she was unlucky at Leicester two runs back. Hollie is a great booking and we have a good draw so she could justify each-way support.

Dig Two is right at the bottom of the handicap and I'm taking a bit of a punt running him here. The ground, between good and good to firm should be firne as he loves fast going and he'll be at the front end from the outset. Hoping he can pop up with a nice performance.

Romanova had a tough task on debut and after a slow start, she was always playing catch up and did well in the circumstances to finish so close. We've retained the hood and she has improved since that debut, so I'm hopeful she can be competitive today.

Per Contra did very well to win first time out at Chepstow despite careering across to the far side in the last furlong. He has improved since that debut and I think we've found a good opportunity although you'll have to bet long odds on.

Roberto Caro has not been the most straightforward so he has a hood to keep his mind on the job on this debut. He will need to improve on what we've seen at home to make a winning start.

Quite A Dream, also a debutant, will know more about it after this first experience of the racecourse.

After 14 mils of rain, I'm debating whether to run Shuwari, who won so nicely first time at Newbury. I'm edging towards not running but will decide a little later on. If she were to run I would be very hopeful.

Romanova is no star but she goes okay and is ready for this first run. I thought after all the rain, one or two could be pulling out and hopefully, she might run into a place. If it doesn't happen like that, no problem as she's making a debut on a nice track.

Kings Valley has shown promise on the gallops. He will improve for the outing but may know his job better than some of these later developers. Small each-way chance.

Edgewater Drive did everything wrong on debut, starting slowly, then going too free before running out of steam. He needs to show he has learnt from that. Best watched.

Per Contra is a nice colt by Footstepsinthesand. He's done some decent work but you always have to be prepared for the effect of inexperience first time out. It's a restricted maiden, but there are a couple with respectable form, so he'll need to run well to beat them.

I was pleased with Dig Two's run, stepped up to 6f at Newbury as he needed it a little and the ground was on the loose side for him. Conditions will be ideal today and he remains in good form. We're taking 3lb off and are very hopeful he can go close.

Cruise has decent form on all-weather and has won over 6f, but she has plenty of speed and this stiff 5f should be made for her. We still think she is well enough handicapped and go all the way up there with a degree of confidence.

Shuwari is a nice filly by New Bay making her debut. Although only five runners, there's a winner and two others that have been placed on their single runs. Shuwari has done some nice work and it will be good to get a guide on where she sits against these in a race that will require the winner to run to at least mid-80s.

Someone's been backing Inquisitively, who was 33/1 earlier and is now about 10's, but not me! He ran well at Windsor on debut and probably was a little unlucky to be touched off. His work has been good and the draw and jockey are fine. In these cavalry charges, you can run a blinder and finish eighth. I'll be happy if he's in the first half but a small each-way would be the advice - if that 33/1 could still be had!

It's a quick enough turnaround for The Thunderer who I thought probably ought to have won last time at Goodwood but for coming from so far back. He remains in good form and this looks an excelent chance.

Anyone Home is a nicely-bred filly but first time out against fillies that have been placed puts her at a disadvantage. I've just got soaked riding out in 28 degrees and it's been throwing it down. Maybe Bath which isn't that far away could get some of it as that's the only watering they have there.

I'm not sure Evocative Spark is the most genuine of horses but going up in trip and with first-time cheek-pieces on I'm hoping for some improvement from him. If he reacts favorably to the headgear he could be worth a small each-way.

Dig Two has a good each-way chance. He wants it like a road and this will be his first chance to race on suitable ground since we've had him. It was nice enough ground at Newbury but he was still in need of the run and wasn't beaten far but we can now meet that winner (up 4 lb), we're down 2lb, on 6lb better and that might be enough to swing it. He should love the track so we're going there hopeful.

The Thunderer overcame difficulties to win at Wolverhampton under a good ride from tonight's apprentice. I hope they go a good gallop as he stays all day. He's not a big horse so he shouldn't be troubled by the course. Hopeful of a good run.

Floating Voter is a newcomer by US Navy Flag. He will improve for the experience.

I expected Cruise to be one of the favourites here after her wide-margin win at Southwell last time when she showed how unlucky she had been in her previous two races. Hollie got on very well with her and I reckon she's a great each-way bet at around 8/1.

Evocative Spark ran okay first time for us and for the season at Kempton and I think he will enjoy going up to a mile. We're adding a first-time hood and the son of Frankel could run a nice race at a big price. Small each-way chances.

Inquisitively works nicely at home but in a big field, he's not only taking on some fellow newcomers from good stables but a trio that has already shown promise. It will be tough to match them first time out.

Edgwater Drive probably shouldn't be as big an outsider as the market suggests, but they are probably reacting to his first-time out tongue-tie. He's a nice enough little horse, but this is a decent-looking contest and we'll probably be heading north next time for a better win opportunity. If he got close to a place I'd be delighted but it's up the road so an ideal starting point for him.

I think Dig Two should run all right today. He showed at Epsom that very soft ground is no use to him and he's a big price, today, as he was first time at Kempton when he ran so well. He'll be a real fun horse on fast ground in the summer. Yesterday's rain at Newbury will probably not have helped but he's still worth a small each-way at the price.

Boann is a daughter of Blue Note and shows the speed we've come to expect from his runners from his first crop. She's done plenty of work and should run well but I think she will improve for the experience. Hopeful.

Cruise has been a little unlucky so far but today with a positive jockey booking and a nice draw, I am hopeful she can get her head in front this time. She's very well and I think the longer straight at Southwell will suit her better than Wolverhampton. Hopeful.

I spoke early this morning to Andrew Cooper, clerk of the course at Epsom, and he said they had 13 mils of rain yesterday. If it had been a dry day I would have been pretty confident of Dig Two's chance after his very promising first run for us at Kempton. I'm still hopeful but the ground is an unknown.

Are We Dreaming won a Listed last time in Ireland on soft ground and as a result, her initial mark in the UK has gone up massively. I think she's more a 6f filly, but if they get the forecast rain on top of good to soft going it might bring her into the argument. Each-way chance again.

Dublin's Charm, by promising sire Pheonix Of Spain, is my first 2yo runner. He shows plenty of speed and will give me a valuable line to the rest of our team. Each-way chances, I hope.

Everyone saw Cruise's first run back at Kempton when she was denied a clear run but was only narrowly beaten. She's odds-on and hopefully if she gets a clear run through she should be hard to beat.

Dig Two is also making a  start here. This looks wide open as the betting suggests, and he goes well at home. He was good enough to be 2nd of 27 in the Windsor Castle as a 2yo and shows plenty of speed as you would expect. Oisin is sure to pick his way through and again he holds each-way chances.

The Thunderer makes his debut for us in what looks an ordinary contest. A smart apprentice is booked and I will be disappointed if he didn't finish in the first three.

This looks a very competitive race with the top two in the betting probably stakes horses in disguise and the Philippart De Foy horse will also be dangerous on his last run. I've had Evocative Spark gelded since he joined us and I think he will prove better that his mark for that, but whether he will be ready to show that level first time is uncertain.

This is the day we've all been waiting for at Manton House - our first ever runner. We bought Cruise from out of the Hannon stable and she has been given a very fair handicap mark considering she was only eight lengths behind The Platinum Queen (who was later sold for £1.2 million to Japan) off levels at Goodwood in July. I can't be sure she can run to her best after seven months off, but I think we've found a race in which she should be competitive.
